J.R.R. Tolkien, born in 1892, was an English author, novelist, poet and professor. He served as the Fellow of Pembroke College, Oxford and the Rawlinson and Bosworth Professor of Anglo-Saxon for almost fifteen years and was appointed as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1972 by Queen Elizabeth II. Tolkien is popularly considered to be the father of modern fantasy literature.
