And yet some details disturb her stay: a young girl, Elvira, who is in love with a racing driver of cloudy repute, her flamboyant and adventurous mother, from whom she is estranged, and the poor Canon Pennyfather who suddenly disappears, whether due to his own forgetfulness or for other reasons. The hotel is comfortable and beautiful, but all the same. . . Definitely, all is not as it appears to be at the Bertram Hotel.
