Shatter Me takes place in a dystopian future, where our protagonist, Juliette Ferrars as been imprisoned for 264 days. Why? because she has no control over her power and is capable of killing someone with just her touch. When the Reestablishment decides to use her as a weapon, Juliette must decide how to stop them from turning her into the monster she has been so afraid of becoming.
One of the standout aspects of "Shatter Me" is Tahereh Mafi's writing style. The narrative is written in a lyrical and poetic manner, with striking metaphors and vivid descriptions that create a distinct atmosphere. This style effectively reflects the emotional turmoil and instability of Juliette's mind. The crossed-out thoughts and fragmented sentences add an extra layer of depth to the storytelling, giving readers a glimpse into the character's inner struggle.
The character development in the book is also notable. Juliette begins as a fragile and damaged character, but throughout the story, she grows stronger and more confident. The relationships she forms, particularly with Adam Kent, a soldier with secrets of his own, and Warner, a complex and enigmatic antagonist, play a significant role in her development. The romantic tension and emotional entanglement between these characters add an engaging element to the story.
If you enjoy dystopian fiction with a touch of romance and a strong protagonist, then its highly recommended.
